Virgin Mojito

Reducing or cutting out alcohol can really help with several menopause symptoms but in particular stress/anxiety and hot flushes. If you are used to regular drinking then cut down slowly. No guilt, no shame. Just a bit less. Dilute that white wine spritzer a bit more every day!  And replace it with a drink you really like.

I make myself mocktails - in a proper cocktail glass with all the trimmings so I feel like I'm getting a treat, I have much less hot flushes and it doesn’t contribute to the meno belly! Here is one of my favourite mocktail recipes, my take on a Mojito!

Ingredients

  • 10 large fresh mint leaves

  • 2 tbsps freshly squeezed lime juice (normally 2-4 limes)

  • 1 drop of stevia or 1 desert spoon of sugar syrup (equal parts water and sugar or erythritol dissolved in a saucepan)

  • 1/2 cup club soda or ginger beer (Fever Tree is my absolute favourite)

  • Ice and a slice and a mint leaf to garnish.

Method

  • Mash the mint leaves in the bottom of the glass with a wooden spoon (or use a pestle and mortar)

  • Add 2 tbsps of freshly squeezed limes

  • Add the stevia or sugar/erythritol syrup and muddle with a spoon

  • Chuck in your ice and a slice of lime

  • Top up with soda or ginger beer and give it a gentle stir

  • Top with a fresh mint leaf
