Hormone Balancing Blackcurrant Kale & Flax Seed Protein Smoothie
This smoothie is a delicious and healthy way to start your day with protein whilst also promoting gut health and hormone balance!
Yoghurt is a great source of protein and probiotics and. if you want an extra boost, add a scoop of high quality and unprocessed protein powder.
Flaxseed is a phytoestrogen which helps to support hormone balance and also a great source of insoluble fibre to help improve digestion.
Finally, the berries, banana and greens, which don’t just give this smoothie a delicious flavour but provide a source of fibre and important antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients such as Vitamin C (blackcurrants), potassium (banana) calcium and iron (kale)
Ingredients
1 handful of frozen blackcurrants
1/2 cup chopped kale or spinach if you prefer (can be frozen or fresh)
1/2 banana
1 tbsp ground flaxseed
1 tbsp yoghurt
300ml plant milk
Optional: 1 tbsp protein powder such as grass-fed whey protein powder or hemp or pea protein powder (preferably unsweetened)
Method
Add all ingredients to a high powered blender and blitz!
Tips:
- Depending on your ingredients the smoothie can be thicker/runnier so you may need to add more/less milk. Experiment to see what works for you.
- Adding adaptogenic supplement powders such as Ashwaganda or Maca can also contribute to hormone balance and stress relief to support your menopause symptoms.
- If you’re super keen on the green you can also add green powders like spirulina, chlorella or wheatgrass, just remember a little goes a long way!
- If you want it sweeter add a bit of honey or increase the amount of banana to make it sweeter (if using a sweetened protein powder you may not need the banana)
